Welcome to New City Wado-Kai

Here you can find out everything about the club, its history and the karate lessons we offer. I am Shihan Richard Patrick 6th Dan,  I have been training in Wado-Ryu Karate for over forty years.  The New City club was established in December 1999.  It was the last important thing I had done before the beginning of the millennium and I'm most grateful that I did it.

Our other club Lenwood Karate Club, based in East Ham, has been growing since we moving there from Plaistow in 1984.  New City school was across the road from our old hall and the caretaker (John) offered us a long-term hire place with the school.

We had many 21 years of great fun but after Covid, the club was without a dojo (training hall) and used the Lenwood dojo until new premises could be found at Nelson Primary School in April 2025.

The training sessions are very friendly and welcoming, we cater, teach and form the classes around nervous, shy and self-conscious students.  We take our time with the students once they are comfortable this has shown dividends over the years.

The club is part of the New Wood Karate Group which associated along with the Lenwood Karate Club and the Brampton Wado Karate Club.

The Group is affiliated to the British Wado Karate Shikukai (BWKS)

The club carries out karate training, offers gradings of belts, fitness and exercise improvement programmes.  Kata (form) and kumite (fighting) competitions at our clubs, both locally and nationally.

The BWKS association hosts Kyu gradings and Dan gradings,   seminars, courses and social gatherings.

The group has been running in the east of London for over 40 years and has a good reputation within the community.
