Welcome to Lenwood Karate Club

On this site you will find out everything about the club, its history and the karate lessons we offer. I am Shihan Richard Patrick 6th Dan Karate.  I have been training in Karate-Do for over 40 years.  Karate has brought great benefits personally to me over the years and I have developed skills that I would never even know that I had.

I had four brown belt instructors in the early 80’s Bob, Robert, Malcolm and Chris, they were all different and had different characters and I learnt a lot from each of them. I remember attending karate demonstrations at Langley Park, where Noreen (a brown belt at the time) would break clay tiles with a punch which looked spectacular

We moved from an office in the Bus Depot in West Ham to a hall in East Ham, The Lenwood Hall.  We stayed there until 2003 and have now moved to the Church Hall on Burford Road.

The Vicar there previously studied Kung Fu, so we had a lot in common.  I am now the Church Warden there and help him with the running and the maintenance of the church.

St. Georges and St. Ethelbert Church are the new dojo (training hall) for the Lenwood Karate Club.  The club has been established for 35 years, and under my stewardship the club will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2028.

The training sessions are friendly and welcoming, we teach and build the classes with nervous, shy and self-conscious students in mind.  We take our time with the students learning karate and once they are comfortable this has shown dividends over the years.

We hold an annual karate presentation each December, this is where we invite some of the students back from yesteryear, and they get to present the awards to the newer students.  This is so exciting to see, loads of pictures and awards are given.

The club is part of the New Wood Karate Group which associated with the Lenwood Karate and the Brampton Wado Karate Clubs.

The Group is affiliated to the British Wado Karate Shikukai (BWKS)

The club carries out karate training, offers gradings of belts fitness and exercise improvement programmes, kata (form) and kumite (fighting) competitions at our club, both locally and nationally.

The BWKS association hosts Kyu gradings and Dan gradings, seminars, courses and social gatherings.

The group has been running in the east of London for over 40 years and has a good reputation within the community.
